Spencer Schmale is a Financial Advisor and Vice President at the Investment Consulting Group. He works with individuals, families, and automotive professionals across Metro Detroit, helping them make informed decisions around retirement planning, retirement income, and long-term wealth management.
His focus is on building clear, structured financial plans that connect all parts of a client’s financial life including investments, taxes, risk management, estate planning, and retirement income strategy. The goal is to help clients move from uncertainty to clarity, especially when planning for and living in retirement.
With more than a decade of experience in financial services, Spencer specializes in retirement income planning, helping clients understand how to turn their savings into sustainable, tax-efficient income. He also provides guidance on Social Security claiming strategies, pension analysis, and scenario planning to evaluate different retirement decisions before they are made.
Spencer uses advanced financial planning tools, including eMoney and Income Lab, to build integrated, data-driven plans. These platforms allow clients to see how decisions such as retirement timing, spending levels, investment allocation, and Social Security choices impact their long-term financial outcomes in real time, including cash flow sustainability and tax efficiency across different retirement scenarios.
Before joining Investment Consulting Group, Spencer worked at a U.S. equities trading firm in Chicago and held roles at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and Copper Run Capital. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management from Ohio Wesleyan University and holds Series 7 and Series 66 registrations.
Outside of work, Spencer is an avid golfer and curler and enjoys cooking, music, traveling, and exploring global languages and cultures.
